The Anniston Museum of Natural History has seven exhibit halls that explore a wide range of natural history, from Africa, the North American wilderness, and 2,000 year old mummies. Housing one of the nation's oldest ornithological collections, diorama exhibits of more than 400 mounted specimens of North American birds include some endangered and extinct species. Outdoor exhibits feature nature walks and live animals in natural environments. The Children's discovery room provides hands-on experiences with Alabama's natural wonders, while the Changing Exhibit Gallery allows visitors to take a look at how artists interpret nature. From natural history programs to Safari tours to summer day camp, the Museum's in-house education department develops programs and events designed such that teachers and their students can choose from a variety of curriculum-building programs, and parents and their children can experience a number of learning opportunities.
