Home to the astronomy classes for Brevard Community College, the BCC Planetarium and Observatory is also a public facility dedicated to education in Earth and atmospheric sciences. The facility houses a large-format movie theater showing science films to the public and to school groups, and exhibit halls featuring hands-on science and historical artifacts from human spaceflight. The Planetarium has seating for 210 under a 70-foot dome projection screen, and features programs ranging from Dinosaur Planet to The Story of the Star. On the rooftop observatory is a large telescope which is free and open to the public every weekend. Teachers can get ideas and classroom materials as well as credit for ongoing professional development in educator workshops. Classes offered to the public include Astronomy for Everyone, a non-credit class offered twice a year for the beginning astronomer. The website has a Sky Tonight page, outlining things to watch for in the sky, including information on galaxies, planets, stars, moons, meteors and comets.
